Community Service by the Physics Study Program of UKRI at Padalarang 2 Public High School
West Bandung, July 22, 2025 — In order to encourage student interest and achievement in science, particularly physics, the Physics Study Program at the University of the Republic of Indonesia (UKRI) held a community service activity entitled “Aiming for Excellence in Physics: Pre-Olympics Initiative for the Champion Generation.”
The event took place on July 22, 2025, at SMA Negeri 2 Padalarang in Bandung Barat District. All faculty members and students from the Physics Program at UKRI participated in the activity, which was structured as an initial training and mentoring session to prepare for the high school-level Physics Olympiad.
The Principal of SMA Negeri 2 Padalarang, Dadang Hermawan, S.Pd., M.Ed., warmly welcomed the delegation from UKRI and expressed appreciation for the event, which was highly relevant and beneficial for the students.
The event proceeded smoothly and interactively, with high enthusiasm from both the students and their accompanying teachers. The training session included motivational talks about participating in the Olympiad, discussions on basic physics concepts, and practice problems for the Olympiad, all presented directly by Muhammad Rizka Taufani, S.Si., M.Si., one of UKRI's physics lecturers. Other lecturers and students also directly accompanied the students, creating a fun and enthusiastic learning environment.
The head of the event, Endah Nur Syamsiah, S.Pd., M.Pd., said that this event was not only aimed at providing material for the Olympics, but also at instilling a fighting spirit in students.
"Through this event, we want to equip students with the right understanding and strategies to face the Physics Olympics, as well as foster a fighting spirit to achieve success. We believe that every student has the potential to become a champion,” she said.
In addition to training, this event also serves as an opportunity to explore educational collaboration between the Physics Program at UKRI and SMA Negeri 2 Padalarang. One form of collaboration planned is ongoing olympiad mentoring, as part of UKRI’s contribution to the development of science and secondary education in West Java.
This activity is expected to motivate students to continue excelling, strengthen the quality of Physics Olympiad training at schools, and serve as a good starting point for synergy between the academic world and schools in efforts to cultivate the next generation of young Indonesian scientists.
