About Our University

Honoring our past, shaping our future.

Universitas Kebangsaan Republik Indonesia (UKRI) is a prominent private university located in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The origins of the university can be traced back to 1985 when an educational institution named Institut Teknologi Adityawarman (ITA) was established by the Yayasan Budhi Dharma Pradesa in the Rancabentang area, north of Bandung. In October 1990, the management rights of ITA were transferred from Yayasan Budhi Dharma Pradesa to Yayasan Pendidikan Kebangsaan (YPK). This transfer was documented in Notary Deed No. 175, dated October 23, 1990. Yayasan Pendidikan Kebangsaan itself was founded on September 20, 1990, based on Notary Deed No. 445 with Notary Ny. SP. Henny Shidki, S.H.

The academic history and institutional development of UKRI can be understood through key events in its establishment and early years. The transfer of management from Yayasan Budhi Dharma Pradesa to Yayasan Pendidikan Kebangsaan in 1990 marked a significant transition in the evolution of the university, paving the way for its growth and recognition as a leading private higher education institution in the Bandung area.

The Yayasan Pendidikan Kebangsaan (YPK) was established with the goal of providing high-quality higher education in various fields. As ITA, under the management of YPK, continued to expand and diversify its study programs, the institution eventually transformed into a university. This transformation was a strategic step in the development of the higher education institution, adding new study programs beyond the field of engineering, offering a wider range of disciplines, and catering to various interests of prospective students. The diversification of study programs also allowed Universitas Kebangsaan Republik Indonesia (UKRI) to become an excellence center in higher education within the Bandung region and beyond.

The change in status from an institute to a university marked an important phase in UKRI's institutional history. It demonstrated YPK's commitment to continuously improving the quality and capacity of the higher education institution, enabling it to make a greater contribution to the development of human resources in Indonesia.

Subsequently, based on the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 182/D/O/2002, ITA officially transformed into Universitas Kebangsaan (UK). This change marked the transformation of ITA into a university with diverse study programs. Previously, under the name ITA, it only offered education in the fields of science and technology. After the transformation, it expanded its academic scope by offering study programs in economics, social sciences, and humanities.

To further emphasize its national identity, in June 2021, Universitas Kebangsaan (UK) changed its name to Universitas Kebangsaan Republik Indonesia (UKRI). This name change was formalized in the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 296/E/O/2021.
